This idea is either going to excite you or gross you out. Either way, you'll get your sandals clean! When you need to clean your flip-flops or any other plastic/rubber, etc. sandals, run them through the dishwasher. I'm serious - this works. I used to clean them by hand, but for some reason they never seemed really clean. Maybe I just have overly odorous (is that a word?) feet sometimes - who knows. I had a pair of Old Navy flip flops that were on their last leg, so I gave it a try. They were cleaner than ever before - no footprint marks or anything. Peyton has those Nike Sandals with the stretchy material on top, and I've done those, too.
For you anal dishwasher people out there - you know who you are - you can always run your dishwasher through empty when you're done!
Another note: I wash pretty much EVERYTHING in the dishwasher. There's something about the fact that I can use a cleaner with bleach in it on extremely high temperatures that gives me some psycho peace. I do toys, including bathtub toys, Hot Wheels, you name it.
That's what works for me - let me know if you can think of anything else fun and funky to clean in the dishwasher!

Two thoughts--ewww, and brilliant. I get grossed out thinking that we're all barefoot in the house after wearing our sandals through everything outdoors. Gotta try this.
What an awesome idea! I keep thinking I should do this with everything my son has/gets, but I never thought of this for me.
I chuck ours into the washing machine :).
Sounds like a great idea. It doesn't make the rubber brittle?
What an original idea. My husband always runs his sports equipment (mask, chest protector) through ours - and his caps. And they come out like new! Never thought of doing the flip flops though.
I'm totally trying this, Thanks !!!!!!
I've done our sandals in the wahing machine but not the dishwasher.
We clean our toothbrushes in the dishwasher.
