Works For Me Wednesday - Price Matching

Over the past several months, I have been spending quite a bit of time clipping and using coupons, scouting out good store deals, and carefully planning my shopping trips. Thanks to the lovely gas prices, I mapped out my store errands so I could get to each place in one run. That sounded like a great idea until I actually tried it.

You see, squeezing in grocery shopping with three kids in tow is hard enough. Whatever posessed me to attempt a four-stop process is beyond me. By the fourth store, I was seriously wondering if it really was illegal to leave them all in the car (with the windows cracked, of course). Ok, only kidding, but it was not going very well.

I have known for a long time that Wal-Mart will price match, but somewhere between giving birth and being pregnant (oh wait - there wasn't much time between those at all), it must have slipped my mind. Well, no more. I still go to Walgreens because they do store coupons and EasySaver coupons, but everything else I get at Wal-Mart at the competitor's prices. It's so nice.

I'm sure most of you do this all the time, but maybe there is someone out there who also had a lapse in intelligence. :) Just in case you don't know the ropes on this, you write down the prices from the other stores in your area, and if the price is higher at Wal-Mart, they will give you the lesser price. One little tidbit here: this doesn't happen very often to me, but sometimes you may get a cashier who enjoys frazzling busy mothers toting small, hungry children with full bladders. They will (and can) require you to show them the exact item in each and every ad. Just paste your smile on and go for it. Oh, and hope your kid doesn't wet his pants.

Anyway, that's what works for me. It definitely has saved me large amounts of time and sanity. If you have other tips on this, please share with the rest of us!

I know Walmart does this, but I have yet to actually take the time to look up competitors' prices and have them match. I really need to do that. I paid $4.28 for a 12 pack of soda yesterday and that was just stupid. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

I didn't know WalMart did that... and I'm with you about the 4 store shopping trips. They just are really not that fun with 3 small kids. I know it works for lots of people, but I never could make that work for me. Thanks for the tip!

I do this with Walmart sometimes - especially on veggies and fruit - but it's been forever! But lately I've discovered that Walmart is higher on so many items, I find myself shopping at other stores more often. I'll have to remember this next time I need papertowels, detergent and tissue paper!
Thanks!

Something to keep in mind, Wal-mart does NOT double coupons, so if you have a coupon for a sale item, sometimes it's better to go to the store that offers the sale (If they double coupons).
